Cengkareng Golf Club

A brief introduction

Cengkareng Golf Club is one of Jakarta’s most accessible and enjoyable championship golf destinations, located within the grounds of Soewarna Business Park near Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. Designed by the internationally acclaimed Walter Raleigh Stewart and opened in 1999, this well-established course blends resort comfort with tournament-grade challenge — making it a favorite among business travelers and local golf enthusiasts alike.

The 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches across gently undulating terrain with wide landing areas, mature palm trees, and strategic water features that come into play on 12 of the holes. Its design emphasizes shot-making and accuracy rather than brute strength, offering a fair but memorable test for golfers of all levels. The routing is scenic and walkable, with the sound of aircraft occasionally overhead adding a uniquely urban character to the round.

Beyond the routing, the course features a distinct 'bowl' effect on many fairways—a signature of Stewart’s design that funnels slightly errant drives back into play, keeping the game moving and morale high. Cengkareng also embraces a modern, energetic spirit rarely found in traditional clubs; it was one of the first in the region to introduce GolfBoards for 'surfing' the fairways and features unique on-course 'Refreshment Houses' equipped with AC and oxygen therapy, proving that here, player comfort is just as prioritized as the challenge.

Cengkareng has hosted several major professional events, including the Indonesian Open and numerous international corporate tournaments. The course is known for its superb maintenance and consistent greenspeed, ensuring reliable conditions year-round. The par-5 finishing hole beside the clubhouse terrace is a standout, offering both risk and reward with water guarding the entire right side.

The clubhouse offers a relaxing post-round experience, with spacious locker rooms, a pro shop, and a popular restaurant overlooking the 9th and 18th greens. The atmosphere is friendly and efficient — a hallmark of the club’s service standard. For players with tight schedules, Cengkareng’s location — less than 15 minutes from the airport — makes it ideal for a pre-departure or arrival round.

Combining strategic design, excellent access, and warm Indonesian hospitality, Cengkareng Golf Club continues to set the benchmark for business and leisure golf in Jakarta. It remains a course that visitors return to again and again — a perfect blend of convenience, comfort, and championship quality.

The practice facilities have been upgraded with new range mats, targets, and a re-leveled putting green, offering ideal warm-up conditions before a round or a quick evening practice session.

The clubhouse restaurant has introduced an enhanced menu featuring both Indonesian favorites and light international fare, tailored for golfers on the go. Its terrace area has also been redesigned for a brighter, open-air dining experience.

Committed to sustainable golf, Cengkareng now incorporates eco-friendly course maintenance and water-saving irrigation technology, ensuring that its lush green fairways remain environmentally responsible for years to come.

Cengkareng Golf Club remains a model of accessibility and consistency. Its location next to Soekarno–Hatta Airport makes it the first and last stop for many visiting golfers, and its course condition is among the best maintained in the Jakarta area. The layout rewards thoughtful play, especially around the greens where subtle slopes add character to every approach. Architecturally, the brilliance of Walter Raleigh Stewart’s design lies in his use of containment. The course is famous for its 'bowl-shaped' fairways and heavy mounding. This serves a dual purpose: it isolates each hole to create a private, stadium-like feel, but more importantly, it offers a forgiveness that keeps play moving—errant drives often feed back toward the center. However, don't let this lull you into a false sense of security; the real defense is the wind off the Java Sea, which can turn the signature 4th hole—with its peninsula green—into a genuine brute.

Service is professional yet relaxed — a reflection of the club’s long-standing commitment to hospitality. From the moment you arrive until the final putt, everything feels smooth and welcoming. Cengkareng is not only a convenient course; it’s one that embodies the true spirit of Indonesian golf — friendly, challenging, and effortlessly enjoyable. Regulars know that the scorecard isn't the only metric that matters here. The club’s hospitality is legendary, anchored by what are arguably the best frozen margaritas in Jakarta golf. Served at the shelter houses (specifically after the 9th), they have become a ritual for many. Combined with the all-female caddy squad known for their high energy and excellent course knowledge, the 'fun factor' at Cengkareng is simply unmatched in the capital.
