There's typically a give and take with any vehicle today, whether quality versus price or utility versus comfort, but the 2025 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is no typical car. Instead, the S63 tries to cheat the system—and physics itself. Despite being a plug-in hybrid built on the 17-foot-long S-Class platform, it delivers an absurd amount of power and brilliant acceleration. It also carves through corners like a much smaller sedan, despite its portly 5700-lb mass, yet this barge remains comfortable and calm inside. But while the S63 giveth, it also taketh away. The hybrid powertrain is tuned for power instead of economy and ends up being less efficient than supporting S-class models. Then there's the near-$200,000 price, which will undoubtedly aid its exclusivity. Nonetheless, the AMG S63 is a glorious and sporty fork in the road to one-upmanship, with the opulent Maybach twins representing the path that prioritizes luxury over anything.

New standard features include digital key capabilities and a three-year satellite radio subscription, which is longer than in years past. High-performance carbon-ceramic front brake rotors are also available, along with a top speed increase to 180 mph. Sonoran Brown Metallic and Verde Silver Metallic paint choices are now available, too.

For a long time, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has worked to develop a high-performance battery that could deliver consistent performance at the highest level of motorsports. Now folks who drive on the road bear the fruit of these efforts with the new hybridized powertrain found in the AMG S63 E Performance. The most powerful S-class ever offered is propelled by a 603-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine up front, with help from a 188-hp motor on the rear axle. Their combined efforts produce 791 horsepower and 1055 pound-feet of torque for the sedan's all-wheel-drive system to process. A nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (a two-speed transmission is integrated at the rear axle for the electric motor) handles shifting and, to help this barge of power navigate traffic and parking spots, AMG includes rear-axle steering as standard equipment. The S63 uses an AMG Ride Control air suspension, AMG Active Ride Control stabilization, and rear-axle steering as standard equipment which makes the S63 feel easy to maneuver.

0–60-MPH Times: In our testing, the S63 E Performance got to 60 mph in a staggeringly quick 2.6 seconds. It also ran the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 129 mph.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life: The S63 is a PHEV that uses a 10.4-kWh battery pack and is said to be good for 16 miles of electric-only range per charge. The onboard charger is capable of juicing the battery at up to 3.7 kW, which, unlike the S63, isn't quick at all.
Acceleration : 0-60mph: 3,3 secs
Curb Weight : 5720lbs
Top Speed : 155mph (electronically limited); 180 mph with AMG Driver’s Package
Power-to-Weight Ratio : Approximately 305 bhp/ton
Platform : Mercedes-Benz MRA II Platform
Suspension : Front: Multi-Link with Air Suspension; Rear: Multi-Link with Air Suspension
Active Aerodynamic System : N/A
Brakes : Carbon Ceramic Disc Brakes with ABS and EBD

AMG insists its shift to a plug-in-hybrid powertrain—which gets help from a new 10.4-kWh battery—is focused on performance instead of fuel economy, with an estimated electric range of 16 miles when the battery is fully charged. The EPA rates the S63 at 18 mpg combined when running in hybrid mode. For more information about the S-class's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo: A large 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is situated between large swaths of wood trim on the Flying Spur's dashboard. For a price, Bentley will swap the static infotainment screen with a moving piece that rotates the screen into the dashboard and brings up a wood panel featuring three analog dials (an outside-temperature gauge, a clock, and a compass.

Passengers can connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot, and those with compatible smartphones will enjoy the Spur's Apple CarPlay integration. Bentley provides a 10-speaker stereo system standard but will install one of two premium audio systems for more coin. Buyers may upgrade to either the 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup or the 19-speaker Naim system with illuminated speaker grilles.

While the massive horsepower will warm the hearts of enthusiasts, the AMG S63's priorities include comfort. It sports an opulent cabin with distinctive AMG upholstery and stitching. A Dolby Atmos audio system comes standard and offers a 360-degree audio experience. The car's 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster provides a bright and clear roster of driving info, but the real magic happens on the standard 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen that's vertically mounted on the dashboard. Road noise cancellation and rich interior materials make the S63 an experience most only taste from limos. Headrest pillows for rear passengers and an abundance of legroom make a strong argument for the S63 as a fantastic car to be chauffeured in as well as a great one to experience from the driver's seat.
